Art in Prison academic research, and we auction off a self portrait by Myuran Sukamaran

Noticed this article in ArtsHub this week from an Australia Academic at UTS in Sydney who has done some research into the benefits of Art in Prison.
Art in Prison: A literature review of the philosophies and impacts of visual arts programs for correctional populations by Alexandra Djurichkovic.

This of course resonated with us after our trip to Kerobokan Prison and to see the amazing work being done by Nico Vrielink with the prisoners in there.

We all bought artwork by the prisoners – it really was of an exceptional standard considering none of them have been artists.
One piece, a self portrait by Myuran Sukamaran, will be auctioned at the theatre during the run of Bondi Dreaming, with all finds going to the Bali Nine legal funds. More details coming soon.

On one visit we met Dutch filmmakers and Bali locals, Roland Wigwam and Peter Mariouw Smit who were filming a documentary on Nico’s work.

They were kind enough to film Bondi Dreaming Producer Nick Bolton inside the prison who filed this video blog from inside Kerobokan
